Putting Scotland's wasted wind to work on AI

Glean Compute places modular AI data centres beside Scottish wind farms, using power the grid cannot take so that it earns money for the farm instead of being switched off.

How it works

Compute goes to the wind, rather than the wind travelling south

Scotland generates more wind power than its grid can carry to England, so farms are often told to switch off while gas plants further south switch on. We put the demand where the power already is, connected by a private cable on the farm's side of the meter.

1

Beside the farm

Container-sized data centres sit next to the wind farm's substation, sized from one to several megawatts with room to grow.

2

Power by private wire

The farm supplies us directly, so the power never touches the congested grid and avoids its network charges.

3

Work that follows the wind

We host AI training, fine-tuning and batch work that can pause in calm spells, with forecasts a day ahead.

For wind farm owners

A buyer for power the grid will not take

When your farm is cut back, the power it could have made is lost. We buy that power on site, and we can also take power in normal hours at a fair price, alongside your existing arrangements.

New income from curtailed hours

Power that would otherwise be wasted becomes revenue, and it matters most for farms that are cut back without compensation.

Your subsidies keep working

Renewables Obligation and Feed-in Tariff payments are based on what the turbines generate, so they continue on power sold to us.

For compute partners

Low-cost, renewable capacity for workloads that can flex

We are looking for GPU clouds, AI teams and equipment partners who want capacity powered entirely by Scottish wind, at a lower cost than grid-powered sites, for work that can pause and resume.

Built for training and batch work

Checkpointed training, fine-tuning, evaluation and batch inference run well on power that follows the wind.

Grid backup where it counts

Sites can include a grid connection for calm spells, so critical racks keep running while the rest follows the wind.
